History of Tampa, FL
Tampa, the county seat and significant city in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States is located near the Gulf of Mexico with the largest bay port in the state. Beautiful suburbs and emerging new cities surround this area. Tampa's geological location is on the west coast of Florida, 85 miles west of Orlando and 60 miles north of Sarasota.
Tampa, Florida’s history started upon the arrival of Spanish voyagers. They visited the location way back in the 1520s. These explorers reported that Indian villages populated their shores. They scrounged the island for gold, and when they didn't find it, they continued their expedition and left the Indians to fend for themselves. Unfortunately, they also left behind a trail of European diseases that the Indians haven't build immunity to, causing them to disappear shortly after contact with the Spaniards.
During the French-Indian wars and the American Revolution in the mid-1700s, the Indians began to migrate into the north and central Florida. In this period of Tampa history, Cuban fishers started to temporarily settle along a small creeks on Tampa Bay.
In 1821, The 1823 a Treaty allowed a large group of Indian reservation to settle in central and south Florida. By this time the U.S. regained their control of Florida from Spain, and they built forts and trading posts to mark their new territory. Tampa's history includes several battles during the Civil War, and after that, a short reconstruction period where the industry was slowly progressing, and poor road construction was an issue for the entire state.

The Discovery of Phosphate
This mineral is a crucial ingredient in the creation of fertilizer and other products. It was discovered in Bone Valley during the 1800s and exported from Tampa in large numbers. Not long after, phosphate became the number one export of Tampa.
The New Railroad System
Henry B. Plants' railroad system reached the small town of Tampa connecting them to the entire country's railroad system. With this, exporting and importing products from the north was made possible
The Rise of the Cigar Industry
Because of the development of the new railroad system Tampa's trading industry worked with one of the cigar manufacturing operations from Cuba. Another advantage of being so close to Cuba was that, imports of tobacco by sea were relatively easy, and up to this day, Tampa is commonly referred to as the "Cigar City."
Tampa was quiet town of no less than 5,000 inhabitants with little to no housing, but due to these significant changes, it transformed into a boomtown overnight and grew to be one of the largest cities in Florida.
In the Mid to Late 29th century, Tampa grew a considerable amount after World War II. The construction of MacDill Field, which served as the main base for Air Corps and Air Forces before and during the world war, is still known today as the second most significant government building outside of the Pentagon.
